In March of 2024, HCPA (the Headwaters Council for the Performing Arts) is bringing Kathy Kaefer to Eagle River for a performance of songs popular around World War I and II. Between songs, she will be reading letters and sharing photographs of veterans who served in those wars and their families who waited for them. But some veterans came back with few opportunities or little inclination to share their stories. And even the veterans who have served since then need an outlet: how do you share what is so personal and lifechanging?
All our local men and women who have served, in war or in peacetime, and your families are invited to participate in an upcoming project leading up to that show. Opportunities will be provided for you, in your own ways, to begin to jot down stories or to tell them (recording devices are available from the library), or to create artworks which portray any thoughts you wish to share. Works in any art media and crafts are welcome. Writing and sharing times will be scheduled at the Veterans Resource Center. These works will be compiled and displayed in various locations in Eagle River, up until the Kaefer show on March 24th at the Northland Pines High School. Some written works may be read at the Memorial Day ceremony in May of 2024.
