We are excited to announce that we have received a Mini Grant from Wisconsin Humanities. Our project, “Veterans and Families Expressions,” support Wisconsin Humanities mission to “strengthen democracy through educational and cultural programs that build connections and understanding among people of all backgrounds and beliefsthrough the state.”

On March 24, 2024, Headwaters Council for the Performing Arts is bringing Kathy Kaefer, with her award-winning show Kiss Me Once: Stories from the Homefront, to the Northland Pines High School. This performance immortalizes the brave men and women of “The Greatest Generation” in a celebration of the songs that inspired them to greatness. She will perform songs popular around World Wars I and II. Between songs, she will read letters and share photographs of veterans who served in those wars and theirfamilies who waited for them. Free tickets are available for veterans through the Veterans Service Office in the Vilas County Courthouse. Regular tickets at HCPApresents.com.

In conjunction with this performance, all are invited to participate in “Veterans and Families Expressions.” This project is being offered by a community partnership among Headwaters Council for the Performing Arts, the Vilas County Veterans Service Office, the Eagle River Veterans Resource Center, the Northland Pines School District, the Walter E. Olson Memorial Library and the Warehouse Community Arts Center.

The goal of this project is to offer a variety of outlets–such as writing, artwork, crafts, interviews, conversation, music and more–for veterans and their families to share their stories and to find meaningful support. Jot down stories or tell them (recording devices are available at the Olson Library), or start an art or craft project which gives you the outlet you need. Works in any art media and crafts are welcome for a display in March before the show.

Free classes in arts and writing will be offered at the Warehouse Community Art Center. You may choose to share your background or to participate anonymously. Early this spring, these works will be compiled and displayed in various locations in Eagle River, up until the performance on March 24th at the Northland Pines High School.
